25 years in the Art World, based in London, working with one of the three largest and most prestigious Fine Art Auctioneers in the world is no normal lead in to becoming a specialist in luxury villa rental in Puglia. Working with beauty, class and people who understand all that is best in the marketplace gives one precisely the edge required to select the best holiday rentals for the most discerning customer. Having that keen eye for detail and those small indefinable variables that makes all the difference!
Indeed, those 25 years of assessing, buying and selling beautiful paintings and works of art have given me a deep understanding of exactly what it is that appeals to the high end holiday maker. It’s not just satisfying the need for relaxation from the daily grind, but it’s those extra touches that can transform a nice holiday into a truly memorable experience: an appreciation of the art and architecture, the history of the region, the simple pleasures of tasting the wonderful fresh foods and wines of Puglia.
Initially my love for Italy was inspired by my studies in art history and endless visits to museums and galleries. In the early 1980s my holidays were taken mostly in southern France and Tuscany. This translated into a serendipitous purchase of a villa in Puglia South Italy, Villa Santoro, some 11 years ago. Family changes led to a full-time move to Puglia where it became obvious that my love for Italy in general, and Puglia in particular, together with the knowledge I was building daily about the region and all it has to offer, was something very valuable that I needed to share.
In 2005 I started renting my own villa in Puglia to holiday makers and very quickly I secured a reputation such that others would ask me to help with their rentals. The business is growing and I currently have 14 properties on my books, all of which I have selected and vetted personally. In their own individual way each of these properties reflects my desire to offer only from the very finest and best value villas in Puglia.
I have a particular interest in wines and have a small vineyard of my own in the Valle d’Itria, Puglia. I can advise personally on vineyard visits in the region and, of course, am always more than happy to show guests around my own vineyard and the cantina where I produce my wines. The Olive Oil I produce is amongst the finest biological produce to come from Puglia, a proportion being imported by a niche wine and foodstuffs importer in Seattle, USA.
A new family, now part Italian, has grown from my move here. I have a two-year old son, Nicholas, who is already helping me with my other passion, the small vineyard, and will no doubt be helping me harvest from my olive groves soon too!.
I look forward to being able to recommend the holiday villa in Puglia for your own individual needs and to satisfying any supplementary wishes you may have for your time in Puglia to make it an experience you will never forget.
